Moderate hike, 4 miles round trip. This is considered a favorite hike of the many we do. This hike is out in the Gunlock area of town. It requires a 30 min drive…but oh is it worth it!! It starts with a short descent down a rocky trail of lava/basalt stone. Depending on the time of year and the weather we then will sometimes cross a stream and then the hike is through a little bit of sand and over a lot of beautiful Navajo Sandstone. Our destination is the two humps that are perched way up high in the sunlight!
There are wonderful sights to behold on this hike. Images in the sandstone, the dragon back and the infamous cowboy potty/ vortex where we traditionally take cool shadow pictures of the group. This is a must see if you visit in the spring and summer and fall months…its a no go in the winter, for its way too cold and windy out there!!
